BIOGRAPHY

Born June 4, 1987 in La Paila, Valle del Cauca Colombia, Jhoseth Alexander Silva is a plastic artist and photographer living in Switzerland since October 2019.

He studied three semesters at the Popular Institute of Culture in Cali, then three semesters at the departmental institution of Fine Arts in the same city.

Some of his most outstanding exhibitions have taken place in Colombia, Switzerland, Italy, Shanghai, Syria and Mexico.

He won scholarship awards in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Cali Colombia. I participate in the book of new artists in Spain in its version #17 in 2019. Also In the Luxembourg Art Prize 2020. And in the Art Lagua World 2020 – 2021.

Jhoseth draws what he sees especially in the Colombian context. Walking the streets of some big cities but also the Colombian countryside sharing with peasants and indigenous people.

He is an artist who expresses the realities in which we live today. For example, “dehumanization” as he calls it. This is why his work often becomes social. Because he wants the plastic work to be complemented by a positive contribution to people’s lives. For this, he seeks to generate in his drawing the way to provoke reflection and questioning.

Graphite and charcoal are the materials with which Jhoseth works the most. He likes the application of gold leaf or gold paint, which he uses in most of his drawings to represent blood, injustice, intolerance and the ambition of power.

Jhoseth also tries artistic performances. During these performances, he likes to «deconstruct» drawing. For this he uses his hands and graphite powder. Both hands work at the same time but each of them will work independently of the other. So one of the two hands is working unconsciously while it is focused on the other. His mind passes from one hand to the other as they continue to draw. He stimulates his two cerebral hemispheres. He likes to experience this connection between mind, body and soul.

Jhoseth draws what he sees especially in the Colombian context, touring the streets of some cities, and in the countryside sharing this with the indigenous peasants.

Generating in his drawing the way to provoke reflection.

He is an artist who expresses the realities in which we live today. Dehumanization as he calls it. That is why his work often becomes social. But it is precisely because he wants the artwork to be complemented with a positive contribution in people’s lives.

The graphite, Charcoals are the materials in which Jhoseth deepens and the application of Golden Foil or Gold Paint which he uses in most of his drawings to represent the blood, injustice, intolerance and ambition that end has the power.
